The Don’t Knock the Rock film festival rolled out the red carpet last week for the Hollywood premiere of “Michael Des Barres: Who Do You Want Me To Be” at the Cinefamily Theatre. The documentary, directed by J. Elvis Weinstein, played for a standing-room-only crowd of friends, fans, family and A-list celebrities — in many cases, one and the same! DJ Howie Pyro was spinning vinyl as the guests poured in and the film was followed by an in-depth Q&A with the director and MDB, expertly hosted by Legs McNeil, the legendary co-author of “Please Kill Me: An Uncensored Oral History of Punk Rock.”
Stars such as Linda Ramone, Steve Jones, Frances Fisher, Cassandra “Elvira” Peterson, Rodney Bingenheimer, Lyndsey Parker, Lili Haydn, Judd Nelson, Ann Magnuson, John Kastner, E. G. Daily, Allee Willis and Gail Zappa mingled amongst the crowd of MDB fans, including a couple who flew in from Norway just for the special event.
The celebratory evening continued with an after-party in downtown LA, hosted by Legs McNeil, Gillian McCain, Price Latimer Agah and Tennessee Hamilton. Many thanks to our gracious hosts, to Allison and Tiffany Anders of Don’t Knock the Rock, The Cinefamily Theatre, and of course to all of those who attended the 7:30 and 10pm showing.
